Alpha Delta Pi was founded on May 15, 1851 at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. Our 6 founders joined together to form the Adelphean Society for “the mental, social and domestic improvement of its members,” which was later renamed Alpha Delta Pi. Alpha Delta Pi was the first secret society for college women and was based on morals that we continue to uphold as sisters today. Currently, Alpha Delta Pi has 151 active collegiate chapters and is home to more than 235,000 women.
In the fall, Alpha Delta Pi holds Diamond Heist, a fun-filled weeklong competition between the fraternities and sororities on campus. Lion’s Share Challenge is Alpha Delta Pi’s spring event where fraternities compete in our highly competitive, annual volleyball tournament on the National Mall. When not at our own philanthropy events, Alpha Delta Pi sisters can be seen supporting other fraternity and sorority philanthropies on campus. Alpha Delta Pi is a strong presence in the Panhellenic and GW Greek Community and always looks forward to events like Greek Week and Grand Chapter.
Another important aspect of life as an Alpha Delta Pi is our social calendar. In addition to the various barbeques, themed mixers, and sports games with other fraternities and sororities, we hold several crush parties each semester, including our much-anticipated Barbie Party. At the end of the fall semester, we hold a semi-formal event where sisters and their dates dress up and spend a night out in Washington D.C. In the spring, we hold our formal event at the stunning Willard InterContinental Hotel, an Alpha Delta Pi tradition.
Our open motto, “We Live for Each Other,” is exemplified in our sisterhood. Whether it’s hanging out in our house at the end of Townhouse Row, participating on campus events, or taking advantage of the amazing opportunities here in Washington D.C. and abroad, Alpha Delta Pi sisters are everywhere and always willing to lend a helping hand! Alpha Delta Pi sisterhood starts at GW but continues far after graduation through our well-cultivated alumnae connections and lifelong friendships.
